English Premier League defending champions Leicester City are aiming to add to their attacking options with their UEFA Champions League commitments and defence of the title in mind.

Sporting Lisbon’s Algerian striker Islam Slimani is their preferred option, and with the transfer window deadline set for this Wednesday night, time is running out on a potential deal for the prolific attacker.

The Foxes made an offer of £25 million for the 28-year-old, but that figure was rejected on Tuesday morning, as Sporting are holding out for a bid in the region of £34 million.

It is, however, widely believed that a £30 million offer would likely clinch the deal, but Leicester will need to act fast if they are to make such a counter offer in time for this particular transfer window.

The Algeria international scored 27 goals for his Portuguese Primeira Liga team last season, and is already on the mark this campaign, with a goal in his club’s 2-1 win against Porto on the weekend.

English champions Leicester have qualified for the UEFA Champions League this season, and as such they will need to have some serious depth in their squad to be competitive in domestic and European action.

They will need to make the most of the next 24 hours if they are to secure Slimani’s signature before the transfer window ends and his focus returns to Sporting Lisbon.
