Film Africa will be five years old this year. The Royal African Society’s annual film festival takes place to celebrate the rich diversity of African cinema on the continent and in the diaspora.
60 films will be screened across ten different places in London. They vary from established venues like the BFI Southbank to the smaller Ritzy cinema in Brixton.

The festival will be opened with Ivorian Phillipe Lacôte’s debut film Run (2014). It centres on the Côte d’Ivoire’s conflict-ridden past. The film has just been chosen to represent the country in the best foreign language film category at the Academy Awards; it will be the first time the country submit a film since they won in 1976 with Black and White in Colour. Let’s see if it makes the cut.
Film Africa are then heading to North Africa for the closing title: director Lyes Salem’s The Man From Oran (2014) is about the turbulent political times in post-independence Algeria. The film sounds riveting.
Film Africa 2015 is taking place on October 30 to November 8 in London.
