The Ghanaian Football Federation is in talks to set up a friendly international between the Black Stars and the United States national team in October.

The encounter is envisaged to take place on Tuesday, October 11 in Washington at the RFK Stadium, pending an agreement between the two football associations.

An interesting rivalry exists between the two teams, as they have met at the last three World Cup tournaments.

In 2006 the Black Stars triumphed 2-1 against the Stars and Stripes during the group stages, while they repeated the same score line in South Africa to knock the Americans out in the round of 16.

The US finally exacted revenge on the Ghanaians in Brazil during the 2014 World Cup, beating the Black Stars 2-1 in the group stages.

The USA have a friendly match against Cuba organised for October 7, and would then play against Ghana four days later to maximise the FIFA international break.

If an agreement is reached for the match to go ahead, Ghana will use the friendly as preparation for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament in Gabon early next year, as well as 2018 World Cup qualifiers.
