Bouchra Jarrar, a fashion designer with Moroccan ancestry, has just been announced as the artistic director of the French fashion house Lanvin.

Lanvin’s recent AW16 collection was decimated in the press – most notably for its lack of direction. Not surprising; the label was without a head designer after the ousting of Alber Elbaz.

On a side note, Alber Elbaz is a fellow Moroccan… Does Lanvin owner Shaw-Lan Wang have a penchant for North African fashion?

From ‘ill-fitting’ to ‘drab’, the reception for the AW16 show was anything but positive. The announcement is probably a much-needed boost in morale for the brand.

Jarrar launched her own fashion house in 2010 and was awarded an Haute Couture appellation in 2013. The designer is known for minimal, classy cuts with a touch of streetwear that has been worn by Jennifer Lawrence and Ciara.

‘I have no idea who she is.’

TRUE Africa has spoken to a former employee at Lanvin for a comment on the news. They said ‘I have no idea who she is’ – Crikey.
