The name Benjamin Clementine may not ring a bell… yet.

The Londoner turned Parisian busker is a self-trained singer and pianist. He’s now picked up a Mercury Award this month for album At Least for Now beating the likes of Jamie XX and Aphex Twins.

He spent three years busking in the City of Love, after moving there on a whim when he was 19 years old. A couple of French producers caught on to Benjamin’s talent and he’s now gone from singing in the metro to performing at Cannes Film Festival, getting invitations from Jools Holland to play and more. Writing his own deeply personal lyrics, the singer is a breath of fresh air with his original, unique flair. No wonder he scooped the £20,000 prize.

We can’t wait for more from the remarkable singer.
