South Sudanese model Ajak Deng has announced she’s heading back to Australia and leaving fashion behind – for good.
What has brought about such a swift exit? The model posted she can ‘no longer deal with the fakes and the lies.’ Ajak moved to Australia in 2005 as a refugee due to the civil war in South Sudan. A modelling career soon followed and has included a stellar list of castings including Marc Jacobs, Givenchy and Dior.

Ajak has always been vocal on racism in the industry. She called Balmain out for apparently dropping her from their Fall 2014 show – in favour of white or lighter-skinned black models. The tweets included a ‘fuck and fuck you. Balmain’. Ajak didn’t hold back.
The model’s next post is pretty blissful post-announcement. Good for her.

We wish her the best and can’t wait to see what she does next!
