Riyad Mahrez has had a good day today. Not only did he contribute the first goal to Leicester City’s 4-0 demolition of Swansea, which restored their eight-point lead over Swansea, but the Algerian was crowned the Professional Footballers Association Player of the Year at the award ceremony tonight.

It wasn’t much of a surprise; he was odds on favourite and Leicester City had already sorted out his travel arrangements down to London.

He’s also the first Algerian and African to win the prize. And it was only two years ago that he was playing in Ligue 2 and complaining about their reserved style of play.

Some famous names tweeted out their congratulations – he’s clearly a footballers’ favourite.
