Introduce yourself.

Rãms means serenely self-possessed and free from agitation especially in times of stress. I’d say I’m a rapper who uses his music to motivate the kids to do more in terms of their art as a whole through melodic yet hype beats and also expressing life experiences from the perspective of a young black man living in South Africa.

I have a very versatile style of rap which is shown in my latest release featuring Espacio Dios called EST. I will be releasing another single called Meditate too.

What are your musical influences?

My music influences have to be the people around me and the things that I see everyday but the main things has to be good music in itself. It motivates me to make good music of my own which I hope I portray in my new series of mixes called Highs&Lows.

I have already released volume one which is a compilation of music by the likes of Mura Massa, SBTRKT, IAMNOBODI, Mick Jenkins, Mac Miller etc.

What’s it like to work in the music industry in SA?

The music industry where I am right now is a very busy space where it’s push and shove for the next spot but through all that I’m just trying to keep my sound as authentic and true to myself as possible and not getting caught in what’s hot.

Where I am there’s a lot of people that just aren’t getting paid so if someone comes to you and offers you a paying deal with the condition that you change your sound, high chances are they’ll take it.

What’s a night out like in Joburg?

A night out with my people starts off with a few rounds of beers. We’ll head to Braam to watch my boy @uncle_partytime play at Kitcheners/Gread Dane, leave there relatively turnt probably having been convinced by some girls to head to the club.

We reluctantly do so, pass out on someone’s couch and Uber home the next morning to my mom asking why I left without telling anyone where I was going.

What song do you listen to when you’re turning up?

Best Friend by RIXXKY, New Level by A$AP Ferg, That’s Not Me by Skepta ft JME, I Wanna by Daniel OG, BOOL’N by Madeintyo, SPZRKT by Blind Man and One Thing by Lapalux.
