Forget Moonlight; Jordan Peele’s Get Out is the only film anyone is actually talking about.

The horror film tells the gruesome tale of Chris Washington (played by the British-Ugandan actor Daniel Kaluuya), a black photographer in his mid-twenties who prepares to meet the parents of his girlfriend, Rose Armitage (Allison Williams… yes, the uptight one from Girls) for the first time. Meeting parents is scary enough. But they’re white too.

As he stays with her a few days, he starts to realise that things are not quite what they seem. It’s a horror film, come on. The parents, and their friends, seem cool enough at first but underneath it all they’ve got it in for him. Queue sudden scares, gut-wrenching suspense and some pretty close-to-the-bone jokes.

The film grossed US$30.5m in its opening weekend and for a brief period attained the elusive 100 per cent rating on review website Rotten Tomatoes. Actor, comedian and now writer, director and co-producer Jordan Peele has received some pretty amazing celeb endorsements for his debut feature.

Lupita Nyong’o (who didn’t bother going to the Oscars this year FYI) had some clear instructions:

Chance the Rapper bought out an entire cinema for his screening:
