It’s been a wonderful summer for art. As those of us living in the Northern hemisphere get ready for fall, here is one of two must-see shows you must catch before they close. If you can get to Provence, and to the wonderful town of Arles, made famous by Van Gogh, you must find your way to Luma Arles, specifically to the Mécanique Générale, in the Parc des Ateliers.
The “50 years, 50 books. Masterworks from the library of Martin Parr” exhibition was coproduced by the Luma Foundation, Tate Modern and the Rencontres d’Arles. TRUE Africa got a tour from one of the exhibition curators, Matthieu Humery, who worked alongside Sarah Allen and Yasufumi Nakamori.
It’s a great way to discover the best work of some photographers who changed the way we look at the world, including LaToya Ruby Frazier, with The Notion of Family (2014), Cindy Sherman, with Untitled Film Stills (1990) et Nan Goldin, with The Ballad of Sexual Dependency (1986).
