Are you part of a startup based in Africa? Or are you a startup founded by one member of the African diaspora? And more importantly, could you do with €10,000?

The Startup of the Year/Africa – 2017 Awards is a new prize set up to ‘promote the African economic and social development through innovative and efficient startups.’ Startups can already apply online at startup.info.  Applications are open until 31 December 2016. You must check that you:

– Have legal status (a registration number will be required).

– Are headquartered in Africa to be chosen as the African Startup of the Year and for OCP Agritech Special Award.  There are no geographical restrictions for the other prizes.

– Have a startup foundation date from 1 January 2010.

Your startup could be eligible for the Startup of the Year/Africa – 2017 Judging Panel’s Awards (1st prize is a cheque for €10,000 and a €10,000 communications package). The panel will also award its favourite entry a €10,000 communications package.

The public will also get to vote from January 2 for their favourite startup. The winner will get a cheque for €2,000 among other goodies. Runners up will be awarded communication packages.

There will also be prizes for an innovative agricultural startups, an international startup willing to settle in Africa and special award for a startup founded by a member of the African diaspora.

Prize giving takes place on 26 January 2017 in Casablanca, Morocco. There will also be a conference with speakers from Volvo, PwC and Société Général
