Ghana once again confirmed their proudly-held position as one of the most democratic and stable countries in Africa. After a tense campaign, local radio stations published provisional results. They state that opposition leader, Nana Akufo-Addo on the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has won the election with an outright majority.
So far the process has been peaceful despite fears it might prove otherwise.
Ghana is consistently one of those African countries that gives the western media nothing negative to report about Africa.#GhanaDecides

Two radio stations were the first to confirm the victory. Joy FM’s website showed Akufo-Addo winning 53.27 percent of the vote and Mahama on 44.93 percent, based on its count of 233 constituencies out of 275 in total. Citi FM gave Akufo-Addo 54.97 percent based on 231 constituencies.
‘I want to assure the nation that we will respect the outcome of the election, positive or negative, and so let us just be calm,’ the current President John Mahama told those gathered outside his house, according to Reuters.
The Kalyppo-loving Akufo-Addo ran in the 2008 and 2012 presidential elections. He’s living proof of third time lucky!
Never give up a dream, Nana Akufo Addo waited for 20 years to become Ghana's president (1996-2016). #GhanaDecides

However it is the Electoral Commission that has the final say and they are expected to confirm the result tomorrow. Some people are getting impatient…
This is getting pathetic now. The gap is so so huge. And we're running out of constituencies. Yet you're still holding out?? #GhanaDecides

While others are already deciding what they’re going to drink at the victory party:

Although a source close to the President Elect says he’s actually ‘obsessed with ginger beer and ginger ale’. Now that’s the breaking news.
We’ll keep you posted about further developments.
