The Paralympic games in Rio are now in full flow and barely a week into the competition, the African Paralympians are well and truly into their stride, recording numerous medals and world records.

The Nigerian Paralympic contingent as expected are once again exerting dominant performances in the powerlifting, with the team recording six of its seven medals from powerlifting.

Lucy Ejike, the team captain and Nigeria’s flag bearer, has been exemplary as she broke three world records on her way to winning the gold medal in the up to 65kg category. She battled with Egypt’s Fatma Omar, but triumphed with a winning lift of 142kg. Fatma’s powerlifting team mates have also put in impressive performances on their way to one gold, two silver and one bronze medal for the Egyptian team.
