Screw Power Lists. Here’s a pick ‘n’ mix selection of some young people who are actually doing things. In this #EyesOn2016 series, they tell us what’s going to blow up in 2016.
Jazzuelle is a South African electronic music artist bridging the space between jazz, deep house and electronic. He opened his own independent record called label Cityscope Recordings in 2010.
Jazzuelle was part of a select group of South Africa’s finest talent handpicked to take part in Red Bull Music Academy (Bass Camp) in 2013. Since then he’s been opening for some stellar DJs and playing festivals globally including opening Sonar Festival Joburg in 2014.
What are you going to remember 2015 for?
Above all things, I’ll never forget the shows I played in Europe. Especially Sonar Festival and Glastonbury. The crowd at Glastonbury was amazing and supportive. At the end of the set, they clapped and cheered… I stood out on the stage and thanked them. I might have even cried a bit… it was an emotional set.
What or who do you think is going to blow up in 2016?
I have no idea to be honest. And that excites me too. I can’t really predict on how the industry will go because anything can happen. That’s just the nature of the scene.
What’s keeping you busy in 2016?
If everything goes according to plan, I’ll be living in Berlin around March 2016 and possibly getting ready to do my album tour with the help of Get Physical Music and my booking agency in Berlin, Kimco Entertainment. Other than that, I’ve got a few EPs and remixes lined up too after the album so it’s a busy year as usual.
I’m influenced by people, places, nostalgia – and love…
A lot has influenced me as an artist and outside my artist life. From the infant years of my career to now, I was influenced more by jazz, underground hip hop and dubby music till I got kinda bored by that, and then I grew a love for techno and everything it encompasses. Apart from that, I’m influenced by people, places, nostalgia – and love…
