Young authors Yomi Adegoke and Elizabeth Uviebinene have shown that they do indeed know how to slay: rights for their book have just been acquired by British publishing house 4th Estate – and the home of Hilary Mantel, Jonathan Franzen and Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie – after ‘a hotly-contested auction involving nine publishers‘.
The book sounds great! It ‘touches on work, dating, representation, education and health, and takes a look at how being black and female affects each of these areas – as told by a bevy of successful black women.’ It’s meant to be an answer and antidote to self-help books like Sheryl Sandberg’s Lean In or Ariana Huffington’s Thrive… and promises to be way more funny and empowering.
GUYS.
I'm SO excited. I'm writing a book @slayinyourlane with my best friend @yomiadegoke. A dream come true.LIT DOESN'T EVEN COVER IT. https://t.co/KYQZRmEApE — Elizabeth Uviebinené (@lizuvie) October 24, 2016
You may have heard of co-author Yomi Adegoke… she’s the founder and editor of Birthday Magazine, which aims to provide representation for black teenage girls and has been a forceful and welcome voice for young black feminism in the British press. Her best friend Elizabeth Uviebinene has worked for Ernst & Young and Deutsche Bank.

Slay In Your Lane sounds like it’s going to be a campaign just as much as a book. It’s ‘a call to action for black British women, the book not only aims to motivate and galvanise them but to inspire and enlighten all to the reality of their experiences.’
We can’t wait to read it. Publication is scheduled for Spring, 2018. Bring it on!
