Sister Act: Beyoncé interviews Solange

Possibly some of the most famous sisters out there, Beyoncé and Solange are also famous for their individuality. You’re never going to be able to mistake one of them for the other… (take note Kardashian sisters!)

So it was intriguing when younger sis Solange was interviewed by her ‘biggest fan’ Beyoncé for Interview magazine.

The interview spans their childhood, their relationship as well as Solange’s album Cranes in the Sky.

They talked about growing up in Houston and Solange describes the influence their parents had on them:

‘As far back as I can remember, our mother always taught us to be in control of our voice and our bodies and our work, and she showed us that through her example.’

She also watches a certain TV programme if she wants a trip down memory lane:

‘I was just having a conversation with someone about The Real Housewives of Atlanta, and I was saying how I love that show and think it’s so brilliant because it’s the woman that was represented in my childhood in Houston. It makes me feel so at home.’

Solange is known for being a renaissance woman – as a song writer, a producer, a visual artist and a stylist – so Beyoncé asked her about her inspirations:

‘One of my biggest inspirations in terms of female producers is Missy. I remember seeing her when you guys worked together and being enamored with the idea that I could use myself as more than a voice and the words.’

And how does she know all about those amazing labels and artists and designers she’s always promoting on her site Saint Heron? It’s something we’re all guilty of…

‘I’m probably on the internet way more than I should be.’
