18-year-old American crowdfunds after getting cut off for dating a black guy

An 18-year-old American girl has launched a crowdfunding campaign to fund her education (and lifestyle) after her parents supposedly cut her off for having a black boyfriend.

Allie Dowdle, a private-school student, told the heart-wrenching story in her crowdfunding blurb in an attempt to persuade you to part with your cash.

‘My dad did not give me an option:  he told me that I was not allowed to see Michael ever again. Why? Strictly because of skin color.  It wasn’t a quiet “no,” either. I’ll never forget the yelling my parents did, when they expressed how disappointed they were in me, that I could do so much better.’

And it gets more heartbreaking. They dated on the down low for a year but when she hit 18, her parents decided to strip her ‘of all my resources including my personal savings, my car, my phone, and my education and leaving me on my own to pay for college.’

Her father has told other news outlets that he cut her allowance because she was spoiled and ‘it became obvious that she needed to go out in the world and grow up.’

So she did the sensible thing and told the whole world about it so they could give her money even if her parents wouldn’t.

Way to get her own back.

Her boyfriend is a former Philadelphia Union Major League Soccer player, Michael Swift. He goes to Clemson University in South Carolina and is supporting her fight for freedom on Twitter.

If this story seems a little silly, that’s because it IS! If my parents were upset with me for any reason at the ripe age of 18, I WOULD GO AND GET A JOB. Get a grip, girl.

And even if the story is true, this hardly makes her a pioneer of civil rights. As Susan Martin said in the comments section:

‘This campaign is highly offensive. Saying no to racism has nothing to do with this situation. Dating a black man and sending a privileged white girl to college who can’t get a job because her parents took away her car is absolutely ridiculous. Take a bus. ‘

That being said, she’s raised US$12,845 so far (above her $10,000 target). That’s got me thinking… I’m going to set up a Go Fund Me page to help me get to New York to be with my Yoruba boyfriend. My family are Igbo tribalists. We must say no to tribalism. May as well raise enough money to send me there first class because, you know, FUCK my parents and fight the power!
