Will Ghana striker Asamoah Gyan join Chelsea this summer?

Gyan is currently on a huge salary at Chinese Super League side Shanghai SIPG, but with Chelsea on the lookout for a striker this summer, a return to the Premier League for the 30-year-old has been mooted.

The forward spent two years at Sunderland and scored 12 goals during his time at the Stadium of Light – including a memorable solo strike in a 3-0 win against Chelsea in 2010 – before he was shipped out on loan to UAE side Al Ain in 2012.

Gyan left for the Chinese Super League last summer, signing for Shanghai in a deal worth a reported GBP£227,000-a-week, making him one of the highest paid players in the world.

After a season plagued with injuries, Gyan was understood to be considering his future in China, but speaking to Ghanaian radio station BOSS FM, he vigorously denied any potential switch to Stamford Bridge.

‘I don’t believe in internet stories,’ said Gyan.

‘There is nothing happening like I’m joining Chelsea FC. There hasn’t been any offer.

‘My team is not sacking me. All these stories are not true.’
