TRUE LOVES: Mary Keitany and Stanley Biwott

50,229 people took part in a run through New York’s five boroughs for the annual New York City marathon. This year, two Kenyans claimed victory in both the women and men open divisions.

Since 2013, both divisions have witnessed the domination of Kenyan runners. This year, Stanley Biwott of Kenya crossed the line at 2 hours 10 minutes and 34 seconds. Mary Keitany defended her title with a run of 2 hours 24 minutes and 25 seconds and became the first female runner to do so since the British runner Paula Radcliffe in 2008.

Fun fact: this is not the first time both runners have won a marathon in the same year. In 2012, Mary Keitany won the London marathon while Stanley Biwott won in Paris. But this year, Mary was able to greet Stanley at the finish line.
