African cinema fans in Paris are rejoicing.
The city of lights has a distinct lack of African film screenings. Until recently, Musée Dapper’s Saturday screenings and NollywoodWeek Paris were among the few long-standing initiatives in the capital – but there’s a new player in the game.
In November 2014, Cinéwax created a film club in Senegal to serve both local cinema-lovers and the industry as a whole. In five years, Cinéwax hopes to create a network of cinema halls across other countries.
In the meantime, Cinéwax has decided to conquer a Parisian audience with CLAP Afrique, a monthly African film club launched in February that aims to promote the diversity of African film. Every first Sunday of the month, viewers will get to vote on social networks to decide the film they’ll watch.
