The former Borussia Dortmund player stepped down from his position as Super Eagles coach last night on Twitter.

The coach offered a succinct summary of why he was resigning: including violation of his contract and unpaid wages. His role was supposed to last three years but he is stepping down just eight months in.

The move comes as a major surprise, given the optimistic tweets only weeks before. In his interview for TRUE Africa, only a few weeks ago, Oliseh seemed positive:

‘I was delighted when I was appointed because very few players get the opportunity in their careers to captain Nigeria and to coach Nigeria. It’s a dream for a lot of captains. For me, it is good to have this opportunity.’

Oliseh has a much celebrated past in the team – including being on the team when Nigeria won the 1994 African Cup of Nations.

His role as the chief coach of the Super Eagles is yet to be filled.
