For some of us, it’s summer holiday time! We asked Sophie Burge, founder of bikini and underwear label Pantyhoe$, about what she gets up to at home in London and abroad when the sun is shining and the weather is sweet.
What are your holiday essentials and why?
I’m not great at planning for holidays at all, I end up throwing all my belongings into a suitcase on the morning that I’m leaving. It’s incredible that I’ve never missed a flight.
But to go to the beach, I would take my Pantyhoe$ furkini, baby oil (I KNOW IT’S TERRIBLE), coconut oil for my hair, Rihanna slides, my selfie stick, a perfect holiday book (I suggest: Amber Rose’s How To Be a Bad Bitch) as well as water and a mango all packed into this fake LV beach bag. There’s always loads of sand at the bottom of it.
What’s the photo that means summer holidays to you most?
This is me at probably around three in my granny’s garden, I didn’t go abroad until I was about 10 and always spent my summer holidays at my granny’s in Norwich.
What do you like to do most on holiday?
The beach. I love nothing more than lying in 30+ degree heat all day, eating loads of exotic, local fruit. It always feels so luxurious.
What would be on the mixtape of your summer?
The perfect mixtape for the summer is plenty of dancehall (Vybz, Spice, Popcaan, Mavado); plenty of Afrobeats (Ice Prince, Davido, Wizkid, Maleek Berry, Burna Boy) and plenty of Reggaeton (Chacal, Yakarta, LKM, Nicky Jam, J Balvin, Farruko).
What are you doing this summer?
This summer I’m just in London with my friends. London would be the best place in the world if it was always hot! (And the air con was sorted out on the tube). I’ll be having bbqs in my garden, going to Pussy Palace parties, swimming at the lido and of course.
Ultimate summer holiday destination (and any tips while you’re there)?
My favourite place in the world is Rio, and I’m moving there for a while this November, so I’d say that was my number one destination. The photo above was taken in Tijuca rainforest in Rio. But I also love travelling through the Middle East, the caves and surrounding deserts of Petra in Jordan were definitely the most beautiful place I’ve ever been.
