TRUE Africa

Cape Town Art Fair returns in February for the best of contemporary African art

The Cape Town Art Fair returns for the fifth year – running from February 17 – 19 at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC). Yet again it will host the best of contemporary African art from classic Capetonian galleries including STEVENSON, Goodman Gallery and Gallery MOMO but will also draw talent from further afield.

This year’s edition attracted the highest number of applications in the fair’s history. Visitors will be able to find work from Gallery 1957 in Accra, Addis Fine Art from Ethiopia and BLOOM Art Lagos in Nigeria. There will also be over 20 galleries which are not based on the continent.

This means that the roster of artists promises to be extremely exciting. In charge of curation is Tumelo Mosaka, a South African who is ‘deeply committed to advancing the ways in which contemporary art stimulates and challenges our world views’. As part of his curation, he has selected the emerging artists whose solo presentations will feature in the exhibition Todays/Tomorrow. Serge Attukwei Clottey is just one of the names promised.

There will also be work from  Cape Town it-girl, stylist and artist Tony Gum, British-Nigerian artist Yinka Shonibare and South African photographer Mohau Modisakeng.

We’re media partners so we’ll be reporting from the fair. Stay tuned!
