Afrikan Boy and MHD on stage at MIA’s Meltdown

The big news in London right now – apart from the fact Kensington and Chelsea voted Labour – is MIA’s Meltdown festival at the Southbank Centre.

For her version of Meltdown, which has been curated by artists like Yoko Ono, David Bowie and Massive Attack in the past, she’s gathered an eclectic line-up of talent.

Naija-pidgin-rapping grime star Afrikan Boy performs at 11pm Saturday evening (it’s free) and Sunday you’ll be able to hear French, Guinean and Senegalese rapper MHD on stage too (tickets here). He’s a pioneer of ‘Afrotrap’ a mix of Afrobeats, and you guessed it, trap. He filmed his last single in the UK, in Manchester.

Drake’s collaborator Giggs will be on stage Monday, June 12, at 8pm (tickets here) with Nadia Rose, A2, Rude Kid and Lisa Mercedez. On Wednesday, June 14, you’ll be able to see the always lit Princess Nokia (tickets here).

There’ll be talks from the likes of MIA herself, special spaces for people breaking fast during Ramadan for the whole week, and the festival  will conclude on June 18 with a performance by MIA herself.

If you’re in London, check it now.
