For some of us, it’s summer holiday time! We asked Annelise Fotso, blogger behind the The Tribeur and Africa Centre co-ordinator, to tell us her tricks and hints for having a great time travelling around the world.
What are your holiday essentials and why?
Although, I always try to pack light and be practical, things don’t always turn out according to plan. I always end up adding more things at the last minute, just in case. But here are the must-haves that need to make it in my bag if I go on an improvised weekend getaway.
Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse, because it smells amazing and for the extra morning shine; a cotton beach towel; sunglasses; a Moleskin notebook, so I don’t lose any ideas; my headphones because my jam puts me in a good mood; my camera to capture those beautiful moments; card holder and passport because I probably need identification and… money! Nuxe Reve de Miel Lip balm, because my lips always need extra-moisturising; sunscreen; denim shorts and a cotton white shirt.
What’s the photo that means summer holidays to you most? And holiday romances? 😉
Growing up we used to go to Corsica almost every summer. When I think about my childhood it’s always full of lovely memories. It reminds me of good times, being in a safe place and a lot of fun!
Gili Meno is an ideal (secluded) spot for a holiday romance.
What do you like to do most on holiday?
I’m a bundle of endless energy even on holiday. I like to explore and learn about the place where I go. I like to go on a treasure trove to the nearest markets to find unique local, specialities. Holiday allows me to nap; they’re truly regenerating! Power napping to recharge and get back on it.
What would be on the mixtape of your summer?
I like music that puts me in a party mood with a mix of hip-hop and pop (My Life is Golden by Elliphant; One Dance by Drake; What You Don’t Do by Lianne La Havas; Bright Lights by Gary Clark Jr.; Banquet by Bloc Party; Lush Life by Zara Larsson; Can’t Stop The Feeling by Justin Timberlake. Anything that would make we want to bring it on the dancefloor… or my bedroom, really!
What are you doing this summer?
This summer I’m staying in London. I’ve had time to regroup and refocus, as well as to carve time for my passion project which I had put on hold. I’ve been building my website thetribeur.com, a lifestyle blog and visual diary on fashion and design personal featuring ‘Made in Africa’ fashion brands and sustainable style.
I created it to explore the fusion between African and European standards for luxury refocusing on handmade, timeless pieces and unique designs. It also features my drawings. I’m glad to have time to work on my illustrations now.
London is such a wonderful and inspiring city. A Staycation is not a bad idea after all. I’ll take some time off in October: heading to Palm Springs!
Ultimate summer holiday destination (and any tips while you’re there)?
A couple months ago, I went to Bali for the first time. I’ll probably rate it as the ultimate summer holiday. Depending on how you want to spend your holiday there, the vibes are different for any type of vacations.
My first recommendation would be to move around the island and discover all the different cities. They all have different things to offer depending on the type of holiday that you want to have.
We went to Ubud, Gili Meno, Seminyak and Jimbaran. I’ll probably go back soon. It’s such a wonderful place to source some of the most beautiful handmade pieces that I’ll feature on The Tribeur.
