Eddy Kenzo wasn’t too pleased by the results of MTV Africa Music Awards as South African rapper Cassper Nyovest beat him, Flavour, Mafikizolo and Stonebwoy to be crowned winner of Best Live Act.
The Ugandan dancehall artist pointed out the coincidence that Cassper Nyovest is an ambassador for MTN who are the official sponsors of the award. Here’s what Kenzo had to say on his Facebook page:
‘I’m airtel ambassador MTN is the main sponsor 4 mamas and the winner in my category is mtn ambassador south Africa, Hehehe just for just.’
It’s true. In 2015, Nyovest signed what he called ‘the biggest endorsement deal in South African Music history’ with MTN. Kenzo went on:
‘Remember!! I have performed in over 35 countries 10 of them full stadium what else? they told us to vote and my fans did go on all @mtvbaseafrica platforms click on #Bestliveact and see the winner by your self I’m not being jealous here, but I do complain because they told us to vote and the fans decide. go back and check their posts down thats what they said even in emails. I was the most voted in my category remember wen you click on #Bestliveact you can see the results Stonboy was 2nd flavour 3rd Caspa 4th. on all @mtvbaseafrica platforms even if it was you!!! should have felt the same. may be! I didn’t understand the word vote for your favorite nominee. Abig thanks to my fans guys the love was real may the Almighty bless the work of your hands.’
Nyovest seemed pretty happy with the award.
And he hasn’t bothered to comment on Kenzo’s theories. He’s probably too busy promoting his documentary Fill Up Orlando Stadium about his Fill Up The Dome concert and guess who that’s being promoted by…
But let’s not get too conspiracy theory about this. There were quite a lot of ways to vote – from logging on to the MTV website, to social media, to searching on Google – so we’re unsure why Kenzo is so certain about his data. However this minor scandal is sure to get people talking and flocking to Eddy Kenzo’s Facebook page… and guess which award he has won? Best Use of Social Media by Artist at the HIPipo Music Awards.
