Drissy Parker is a R’n’B music producer based in London and Johannesburg. He just released an instrumental mixtape titled #LoveNotOnMyTrapline.

Introduce yourself.

My name is Drissy Parker aka V for V I R TU Ö SÖ. I am a half-Nigerian and Zimbabwean artist and producer, as well as 1/3 of a production group called THE LAST TRIBE. I am currently living between Harare and Johannesburg.

What are your musical influences?

My musical influences range far and wide, stuff I would hear my parents listen to and stuff I grew up on, first influences that come to mind are, Eminem, Dr Dre, Michael Jackson, R. Kelly, Tupac & Boyz II Men.

What’s it like to work in the music industry where you are?

It is tough. Honestly I think we all just try to build, make the best possible music in the hope of that massive breakthrough. A lot of artists are putting in work and they deserve the respect and coverage but that always is the struggle to get it.

As a producer, it is really just about finding the right artists to work with and who you can develop a vibe with, so I would say it is a constant mystery and adventure.

What’s a night out like in Joburg/Harare?

A night out where I live? Man! Party vibes and bare drinking, that’s what Zimbabweans do! Good vibes, good drinks, good music and a couple of spices. That’s a good night out over here.

What song do you listen to when you’re…

(a) turning up: March Madness by Future
(b) feeling sexy: Song to feel sexy to I don’t think any song makes me feel sexy but if it’s to get in the mood? Thirsty by PartyNextDoor
(c) pining over your ex: HAHAHAHA Glass House by Luke James
